Heybridge 2 Coggeshall 2

We started today's game very positively, we had a strong wind against us and this encouraged us to play some good football. Heybridge took the upper hand with some very strong running and tackling in midfield with J.C. and Harley involved in setting up some good moves for Alex and Sam to run onto. We kept possession well and when Coggeshall managed to get the ball , they found our defence of John Hewer, Ryan Callow, Tom Mcfarlane and Liam Ansell up to the task of dealing with their attacks.  James Reed in goal showed his strength in making correct decisions at the right time and everything seemed to fall into place. Alex was rewarded for all his hard work up front, running through Coggeshall's defence to slot the ball past their keeper to go 1-0 up. Our second came from some good work down our left between Charles Pleace and Alex who crossed in for Sam to head home 2-0. It stayed that way till half time.

The second half was totally different. Coggeshall made some changes to their line up , which worked in their favour, and Heybridge's changed line up just could not get into the game. Coggeshall soon made the score line level, but that's not to say that Heybridge did not have the odd one or two chances as well,.Luke Melia found himself with a couple of one on ones and on another day he may have scored one of them, but today it was not to be. With five minutes left Coggeshall had a great chance that was spooned over the bar to take the lead, and in the dying minutes with Coggeshall having their proper goaly in goal, Harley had a great shot well saved by the keeper.

Coggeshall 2 Heybridge 2

After the disappointment of throwing a two goal lead away last week, Heybridge were determined not to make the same mistake again in this, the return fixture in the league. Once again we took the upper hand early on , and started to play some very good football. Heybridge, with their good passing game, found themselves opening up the Coggeshall defence very easily but were unable to capitilize on the chances created. Our first goal came from another strong run from Harley, straight through the heart of their defence. His goal bound effort was saved by Coggeshall's keeper but Sam 's quick thinking to follow up allowed him to score from close range. Coggeshall then started to get into the game and James in goal was again unbeatable with his superb anticipation to come out and dive at the attackers feet. It was going to have to be a goal with a stroke of luck today to beat James and that was what happened. He could do nothing with a long range effort that bounced of the post and hit him to go into the net. Heybridge soon got back to attacking the Coggeshall goal , the midfield of Arron, J.C., Harley and Charles were making strong runs into the box and lots more chances went begging. Our second goal finally came when Harley sent Sam through , he tried to round the keeper who saved at his feet but it spilled out to Alex who again was rewarded for all his hard work with a fine finish into an empty net.

Half Time 2-1 Heybridge.

The second half was a bit mixed with both teams having chances. With the slope in our favour the ball kept running away from our touch and we lost control of the game. Coggeshall created an opening in our penalty area which resulted in a good shot finding the back of the net to make the scores level. Harry Bolton came on at this point in the game in the left back position and played very well. With 15 minutes left in the second half, Heybridge player Nick Baker was trying to make a pass over the Coggeshall defence and fell over onto his arm,  causing him some  painfull discomfort. He was taken off with a suspected broken wrist to await an ambulance, which would take him to hospital.  The game re-started but both teams seemed to back off a bit with the thought of a team mate and fellow footballer in pain on the side lines. The last piece of action saw Liam chasing down a ball rolling in between the defender waiting for his goalie to come out , but he never did and the running down  of the slope and the determination of Liam got him there first, in between  the two of them, to toe poke the ball through the keeper's legs to go just wide of the post.

Focus Ferrers 7 Heybridge 1

Todays game was against one of the stronger teams in our age group and they are currently way ahead in our division. Although the score line suggests that this was a walk over, it was far from it in footballing terms . Focus made sure in the first half that they gave nothing away and won the fifty fifty tackles , which then let them play  the ball up and over our defence at times, for their centre forward to run on to and score. This pattern of play got them 3-0 up at half time. Heybridge then found that the quicker we got up out of the defence, the more times we had Focus offside. Heybridge without doubt had some chances but we couldn't find the target. Heybridge kept on playing the football that they are good at ,and they exposed some weaknesses in the defence at times, but it was just not meant to be today.

Half Time 3-0 Focus

The half time team talk was all about giving  that little bit more and see if we could win the second half. Heybridge took the game to them and with the introduction of Jordan, getting stuck into them, and Charles, working very hard, we scored very early on. Charles finished off a bit of a goal mouth scramble and suddenly we were back in the game , and for the next five minutes we thought it would be possible. Our play was good and we started to make more solid tackles all round the pitch. The first real chance Focus had this half was a terrific shot from the edge of the box looping over James head. This goal seemed to dampen the spirit of Heybridge and they just couldn't get going again in the same way that they did at the start of the half. In the last ten minutes Focus found the net three more times , which personally I thought flattered them, but with bigger and stronger lads they played to their strengths very well. Heybridge just need to bring some more consistancy to their play and we shall be right up there in the league.

HEYBRIDGE 5  WHITE NOTLEY 1

In very windy conditions Heybridge ended the game the much stronger of the two. In the very first minute of the game we got a free kick down our left, John Hewer took it quickly for Jordan to run onto and send over a brilliant cross, that unfortunately Harley and Sam just couldn't get on the end of. Heybridge went through a period in the game where they couldn't just get their play going. A series of offsides , efforts on goal and giving the ball away too much then allowed White Notley a breakthrough . Their centre forward ran onto a ball played through our defence, and calmly slotted the ball past James. This then made Heybridge kick start into action. Alex was asked to play in the midfield today and his tireless work resulted in a perfect through pass for Luke to run onto, which he then calmly slotted past their keeper to equalize. We then kept them under some pressure in their half , Jordan kept getting in some good crosses but we weren't  brave enough in the box to put our chances away. It took our left back John Hewer to show how to keep going when all seemed lost. When going forward  he went through three tackles and shot across the goal , to see his effort go in off the far post.

Half Time Heybridge  2 White Notley 1

In the second half the wind seemed to change direction in Heybridge's favour and each time we went forward you felt we were going to score. We realised that by keeping the ball and finding our passes to one another you then create more opportunities and hopefully turn them into goals. That is what we did for the third goal. J.C. played up to Harry , he passed out wide to Aaron who passed to Harley. His cross into the box was met brilliantly by Alex who rifled his shot into the roof of the net. The fourth goal was very similar, a cross again from Harley was this time finished on the far post by Luke to score his second. Heybridge were then playing some good football. Harry was chasing everything up front to keep Notley under pressure. He never gave up running after a ball in the left corner of the pitch and he got us a throw in. Liam's throw to Alex was layed back for him to send over a brilliant cross into the box. This turned out to be a bit of a scramble and the ball fell to Sam to finish off.. J.C. had some great shots from the edge of the box, well saved by Notley's keeper, and Sam had a shot that went agonisingly wide with only the keeper to beat.  Alex was substituted with a minute left to warm applause from everyone for his exellent contribution to a fine win. This result  shows how we dominated the second half and it must be said that on the rare occasion that Notley got through our midfield, our defence was there to tidy things up. Well done today lads , keep it going.

Final score Heybridge 5 Notley 1

FRIENDLY v. UNDER 10'S HEYBRIDGE BOYS

This game was played to help Gary and Rob get their boys into 11aside mode for next season and they certainly did themselves proud. In very windy conditions both teams found trying to play their normal game very difficult. The under 10's though seem to settle down very well and they got their tackles in and won the ball in good areas to help keep the u11's pegged back in their own half. The u11's would not do the simple things when nescesary and put themselves under to much pressure. On one of the 10's attacks their centre of midfield player put away his chance on the edge of the area , very well ,to what turned out to be the winner. Gary and Rob have certainly got a good team there, and so are the u11's but they must keep doing the simple things every week no matter who they are playing,. Remember thats what got us the 5-1 last week lads.

THREE RIVERS TIGERS 2 HEYBRIDGE BOYS 2

Today was a chance for Heybridge to pick up some points to help them climb up the league, on a pitch that was very long compared to what we are used to, and in very cold conditions. Heybridge had a bit of an indifferent start to the game. Some of our players took a little longer than others to get going and when we do that , cracks start to show in our play. We had good build up play at times but it just did not lead to the finished product and we gave away possesion too many times, which resulted in Three Rivers taking the lead . A long, hopeful ball was not dealt with, an unusual mistake by Tom . This  allowed their centre forward to run onto  the ball and score. Straight from the kick off, Heybridge played some great football to get to the other end , but it faded away for their goaly to pick the ball  up unchallenged. The harder we tried to get the equalizer ,the more Three Rivers looked to catch us on the break and again it was the same ball and the same player who ran onto it and scored to make it 2-0 just before half time.

Half Time Three Rivers 2 Hey 0

So, once again, our team talk was all about going out for the second half and showing that as a team we never give up till the end . The boys responded superbly. Liam was pushed into the midfield to help Harley who was having  a good game, playing the ball out wide and showing good support to other players. We needed a goal to boost our confidence and that came from a brilliant chip from outside the box from Liam, over the keepers head , to bring us back into the game. Heybridge then seemed to not get the breaks in play and the reshuffles in the side seemed to stop the flow . We needed a bit of magic to get the deserved equalizer and with time running out , step up the skipper Charles to produce just that . He picked the ball up just out side the edge of the penalty area. He went past three defenders and rifled a shot into the bottom corner of the net to the delight of everybody in the team and the many mums ,dads and relatives that came to watch. Just before the final whistle James was asked to defrost himself , having had not much to do all game, to make a fine save to keep the scores level.

Final Score 2-2

Heybridge Boys 1 Focus Ferrers 6

The first half was very even ,Heybridge looked well organised in their defence, playing the offside trap to good effect. Focus showed why they are top of this league ,using their strengths to good effect , playing the sometimes long ball over the top or a very good through ball for their very sharp centre forward to run onto. Focus went one nil up  playing this way ,only after Heybridge  had threatened  their goal on a couple of occasions , had  they kept good possesion at times in attack and finished in front of goal with some conviction the half time score line may have read better than one nil to Focus.

The second half looked promising with Heybridge playing well , but with Tom out injured and Aaron feeling unwell at the start of the second half we had to have a makeshift defence. Three more goals came in the same fashion for Focus before Harry gave Heybridge a glimmer of hope with a fine strike from just inside the eighteen yard box to score his first ever goal . Focus finished of the scoreing to make it six , but Heybridge still tried to play some good football and had some more chances before the final whistle.

Final Score 1-6

Heybridge Boys 4 Hatfield Peveral 3

Today saw a very entertaining game played by two teams looking to play good football. Right from the start J.C. got involved in some early play in the centre of midfield and Alex , with all his trickery, managed to create some chances . The first ten minutes seemed to be all Heybridge pressing forward , and although Hatfield tried playing the through ball to run onto, Heybridge's defence dealt well with their attacks. Heybridge's first goal came from some great play down our right. Quick movement of the ball between John Hewer and Aaron ended with a brilliant bit of skill from Alex turning two defenders and pulling the ball back to J.C. who took the ball onto his left foot, his shot giving the keeper no chance . We seemed to take our foot off the pedal a little for the next ten minutes to allow Hatfield to get back into the game and take the lead. They equalized with a terrific shot from the edge of the box giving James no chance and took the lead with five minutes of the half to play.

Half Time HEY 1 HAT PEV 2

Second half was just as entertaining as the first. Jordan began to get more joy and reward for all his efforts, starting some of Heybridges flowing moves, along with Charles and Alex , down our left. This seemed to be where our strength to create more chances would come from. Liam was showing great determination to get that equalizer and with the introduction of Luke up front alongside Sam adding some pace ,we looked like we could do just that. Charles picked the ball up in midfield and played a quality through ball for Sam to run onto. Sam showed great strength in holding off the chasing defender  and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it two each. Heybridge then looked the better side. Liam sent in a free kick which their keeper couldn't handle and up popped Luke to tap in our third. Soon, after some more great play down our left ,  Alex sent over a brilliant ball into the path of Sam who this time finished off as a defender and an advancing keeper closed him down  . But straight away from the kick off, a long ball up front caused a misunderstanding in our defence, and  James was lobbed to set up a nail bitting last few minutes. Great last minute tackles from Tom and one of James 's special saves kept the score in our favour. Once again everyone played a part in a fine win and it just shows what we can do with a bit of consistency.

Final Score 4-3

April 3rd -   Tollesbury 3 Heybridge 3

Today was played in conditions that seemed to suit both teams equally well, and Heybridge got off to a great start. Alex battled in the midfield and provided chances for both Sam and Luke, but the finish didn't quite come.Tollesbury took advantage and put a timed pass through our defence, and their nippy striker finished cooly. We then got the play flowing, with Sam's 18 yarder bouncing just wide and a foul on Luke in the area turned down. The reward came to us when a shot was charged down and it was given as handball. Sam ran to collect the ball and he put it on the spot, before striking a shot into the left corner. The last five minutes held great work from Liam and Nick, and J.C in with some great tackles.

Half Time TOL 1 HEY 1

The second half was all Heybridge with Harry on the right, Harley in the middle and Charles pushed up-front with Sam. One attack came when a miss clearance from Tollesbury's defence fell to the awaiting Alex, who took a great touch and put Sam in with a superb ball, and Sam hit his 9th goal into the top corner to put Heybridge into the lead for the first time. A Tollesbury attack followed with their striker being fouled and a penalty being awarded. A close shot only rolled in by a small bit and James was unlucky because he had made some superb earlier saves. The same situation came again but it was a clear dive and should of been awarded to us but the ref gave another penalty and another goal. We battled brilliantly and had to be rewarded with a goal. Powerful running from Harley down the right gave J.C a goal and our long awaited equaliser. It ended 3-3 but proved to be an excellent result for us. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE!
